Daniels Scholarship Program application now open

The Daniels Fund is excited to announce the opening of applications for the Daniels Scholarship Program, providing a life-changing opportunity for students looking to pursue their higher education dreams. Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming high school seniors are encouraged to apply to become 2024 Daniels Scholars at DanielsFund.org/Scholarships by 4:00 p.m. MST on Oct. 15 to be considered for the scholarship.

The Daniels Scholarship Program provides the opportunity for motivated students to attend the college of their choice. The scholarship can be used at any two- or four-year nonprofit, accredited college or university in the United States. The Daniels Fund expects to award approximately 200 scholarships to the graduating class of 2024 in March. Since 2000, the Daniels Fund has provided more than $250 million to over 5,000 scholars.

High school seniors in Colorado, as well as New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming, are eligible to apply.

Eligibility requirements:

  • Be a graduating high school senior.
  • Be a resident of Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, or Wyoming.
  • Be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States.
  • Earn a minimum grade point average of 3.0 in high school (on an unweighted 4.0 scale).
  • Earn a minimum SAT math score of 490 and a minimum evidence-based reading and writing score of 490, or a minimum ACT score of 18 in each category (writing score not required). Super scoring is not accepted.
  • The applicant’s parent(s) or legal guardian(s) must have an adjusted gross income of $100,000 or less on their 2022 tax return on which the applicant is claimed as a dependent. Additional income is allowed for additional dependents; visit the Daniels Fund website for specific details and examples.

What the scholarship covers:
Daniels Scholars will receive a full ride if they attend a partner schools within Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming. A full list of partner schools is available at DanielsFund.org/partnerschools. Scholars who choose to attend a school outside the Daniels Fund’s four-state region can receive up to $100,000 over four years for educational expenses. Scholars attending schools within the four-state region outside of the partnership agreement can receive $30,000 over four years for educational expenses.

All Daniels Scholars also receive a laptop computer, networking opportunities, leadership development opportunities, and career development.

University of Wyoming wins undergraduate Daniels Fund Ethics Case Competition

University of Wyoming team wins 2023 Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative Case Competition Undergraduate Track

The Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative’s eleventh annual Collegiate Program Case Competition took place April 21 in Aurora, Colorado. The event included two separate competition tracks — one for undergraduate students and one for graduate students. Students from the University of Wyoming won first place in the undergraduate track for the second consecutive year and the University of Denver placed first in the graduate track.

The Case Competition exposes college students to a thought-provoking business ethics case similar to a situation they might face in their professional careers and gives them practical tools for ethical decision-making that they will be able apply in the future.

University of Denver placed second and Colorado State University placed third in the undergraduate track. In the graduate track, the second place team was from the University of Colorado Boulder and the third place team was from University of Colorado Denver.

Student teams received a business case based on a global supply chain company and took on the role of a consulting firm hired to identify ethical issues, which included privacy, employee monitoring, conflicts of interest, working from home versus the office, and more. Each team analyzed the ethical issues involved and presented recommendations to a panel of judges comprised of business and community leaders playing the role of the company’s senior management team. Judges evaluated presentations against criteria including the Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative Principles: integrity, trust, accountability, transparency, fairness, respect, rule of law, and viability.

“For Bill Daniels, ethics were not just theoretical, but were essential for creating a sustainable and prosperous business environment,” said Hanna Skandera, President & CEO of the Daniels Fund. “Bill would be proud to see these aspiring leaders applying ethical principles in the competition and building a foundation that will guide them through their careers with integrity at the forefront.”

Ten undergraduate and nine graduate student teams participated in this unique competition, designed exclusively for business schools that are part of the Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative Collegiate Program from Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming.

The Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative Collegiate Program was established in 2010 to instill a high standard of ethics in students and strengthen principle-based ethics education in participating schools. The program consists of eleven university partners in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming.
