Daniels Fund awards $1 million to 25 colleges and universities for scholarships to non-traditional students
DENVER – Daniels Fund has awarded $1 million in Boundless Opportunity Scholarship funds to 25 colleges and universities in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming. The partnering schools will award Boundless Opportunity Scholarships to non-traditional college students who are motivated to create a better life for themselves and their families and who demonstrate the need for financial assistance.
Student populations that qualify as "non-traditional" include: adult learners; GED recipients; foster care youth; juvenile justice youth; returning military; individuals pursuing EMT/paramedic training; and individuals pursuing Early Childhood Education certification.
"All too often, students who dream of bettering their lives with a college education are unable to afford it,” said Linda Childears, president and CEO of the Daniels Fund. “Boundless Opportunity Scholarships give a boost to non-traditional students seeking the benefits of a college education."
Colleges and universities receiving BOS funding include:
Colorado ($699,000): Adams State University, Aims Community College, Arapahoe Community College, Colorado State University-Global Campus, Colorado State University, Community College of Denver, Emily Griffith Technical College, Metropolitan State University of Denver, Pikes Peak Community College, Pueblo Community College, Red Rocks Community College, Regis University, University of Colorado Boulder, and University of Colorado Colorado Springs.
New Mexico ($146,000): Central New Mexico Community College, Eastern New Mexico University, New Mexico Military Institute, New Mexico State University, and University of New Mexico.
Utah ($85,000): Salt Lake Community College, University of Utah, and Westminster College.
Wyoming ($70,000): Casper College, Central Wyoming College, and Laramie County Community College.
Funding for Boundless Opportunity Scholarships is in two-year cycles, so scholarships may be available at other schools that received funding in 2014. A list of schools and their student populations receiving BOS awards can be found at DanielsFund.org/Boundless.
Since 2003, the Daniels Fund has awarded $14.3 million in Boundless Opportunity Scholarships to nearly 4,500 non-traditional students. The name of the program came from a quote by founder Bill Daniels who once stated, "America remains the greatest nation on earth, where boundless opportunities still exist for each and every one of us."
