Jim Griesemer is Professor and Dean Emeritus at the University of Denver’s Daniel College of Business where he teaches graduate courses in business strategy and strategic management.
His background brings together the worlds of theory and practice. He has extensive experience as a chief executive officer and chief financial officer in public, private and non-profit organizations and has taught management, finance and business strategy at the University of Denver, the University of Colorado, and Aurora University in Illinois.
Dr. Griesemer served as Dean of the Daniels College of Business from 1994 – 2004. During his years as dean, the College significantly increased enrollment, quintupled its endowment, constructed a new state-of-the-art building, and was ranked by The Wall Street Journal as one of the nation’s best business schools.
Before becoming Dean he served as Chief Financial Officer of the University of Denver where he helped lead the financial turnaround of the University.
Dr. Griesemer began his career in public administration as a city manager. Over the next twenty years he managed several cities and was the recipient of a number of national and regional awards for excellence and was named Outstanding Public Administrator in Colorado. He also spent time serving as chief executive officer of a real estate development company and later managed privately-held real estate investments.
He is active in the community recently having served as Chair of the Finance Committee of the Denver Infrastructure Task Force and Chair of the Colorado Economic Futures Panel. He has served as a trustee of the Colorado Symphony and currently serves as a trustee of the Iliff School of Theology.
Dr. Griesemer is the author of two books and is a frequent speaker on strategic management for businesses and institutions. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Northern Illinois University and a Doctorate in Public Administration from the University of Colorado.
